The Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center
York, Pennsylvania
The historical Stand and Capitol theaters in York, Pennsylvania are enjoying a great renaissance after many years of laying dormant. Combined into one large performing arts center, the venue attracts many national acts. Clair Brothers Systems was asked to design and supply a speech reinforcement specific PA system, distributed RF video system and a lighting dimming and control package. The results can be seen below.

After weighing many design considerations, we decided to install a single monophonic center cluster and tune it's frequency response and coverage pattern to this particular venue. For speech reinforcement, single source systems tend to exhibit very good intelligibility and cohesiveness. Low frequency reproduction is supported by subwoofers built in the stage.

The center cluster is our newest product- the CAT-214. The patented Curved Array Technology allows us to use relatively small and aesthetically pleasing cluster of cabinets to cover a large room with sound that is consistent from one location to another. The cabinets in the cluster were finished in custom, decor-matching colors.
A view from the stage. The sophisticated dimming system allows the operators to adjust the ambient light in the venue for each event.
The sound reinforcement for the last few seating rows, where the main cluster's coverage deteriorates due to distance and reflections, is accomplished by Clair Brothers UB-2003 under-balcony loudspeakers. The speakers are time aligned and equalized for a seamless blend with the main cluster.
