In the spotlight

First Presbyterian Church on Orange Street
Lancaster, PA
This sound system installation at the First Presbyterian Church on Orange Street in Lancaster, PA shows that even a relatively small system gets the same attention to detail and creative thinking that became the hallmark of all Clair Brothers installations. Clair Brothers Systems designed and installed a speech and music reinforcement system with monitor support for the choir and instrumentalists in the main sanctuary, as well as a small PA system in the churches Fellowship Hall.

The sanctuary is a beautiful traditional room with stained glass windows and neoclassical columns. The designers of the audio system wanted to keep the interior free of offensive boxes, but without sacrificing intelligibility of the sound system. Digital stearable line array technology supplemented by front fill speakers and compact subwoofers proved to be a perfect solution to the challenge.

EAW's DSA series loudspeakers provide the bulk of the sound throughout the sanctuary. Their small size and stearability allows for less obtrusive placement with the advantage of directing the sound at the audience.
An I/O panel and a basic set of controls are mounted facing the altar. This allows the minister to control the volume of up to six wireless and wired microphones when no one is available to operate the dedicated audio mixer in the back of the room. A preset panel in the main rack activates the wall mounted controls. Miniature speakers serve as personal monitors for the choir members.
A custom built roll-top desk contains a 20-channel mixer and basic playback/recording equipment.
Sound for the balcony is provided by three ceiling-mounted EAW delay loudspeakers.
The Cherry Street Worship, which is the churches Fellowship Hall was equipped with a small PA consisting of Clair loudspeakers and amps as well as an Allen & Heath mixing console. During the recent renovation of the main sanctuary the Cherry Street Worship served as the main location for all services.
